A dissemination activity about jellyfish and their presence and impact in coastal areas was developed in the frame of the MED-JELLYRISK Project, in Catalonia, Spain.
During 2013 season, the dissemination has been carried out in different coastal areas and municipalities, generally during the whole day in places like the seafront, city squares, etc., through an activity for all public and beach users. The activity consisted in setting up an itinerant structure, the DOME, inviting all people to participate in the project and know more about jellyfish, their habitat and their characteristics, in a dynamic and entertaining way.
The DOME is an aluminium structure of easy transport and quick set-up, with 4 metres diameter and 2.3 metres height, covering an area of 13 m2. The structure is covered with a PVC cloth decorated with marine images, which creates a very attractive shape and invites people to know the inside. A 15 minutes video about jellyfish was shown inside the DOME.
Moreover, an aquarium exhibition with jellyfish and polyps was shown, and the polyps were also shown under a microscope that was specially installed for this purpose.
Finally, dissemination posters were installed around the whole exhibition, informing about the Project and jellyfish in general. Also dissemination materials, such as identification cards and guides, postcards, posters etc., were available for the visitants.
